Master Builders Tasmania Construction Ready Program is a pre-apprenticeship program designed to have your new apprentices work ready before they commence their apprenticeships.  The course runs over 2 days and sessions are held from 8.30am to 4.30pm.

The idea of this program is to give participants exposure to the language of the construction industry.

  • To help them gain the knowledge and the skills they need to help minimise health and safety risks, this involves an understanding of legislation, working within the boundaries of the roles and obligations of workers, managers, supervisors in order to help keep workplaces safe.
  • Hazardous Manual Tasks, to establish methods to minimise the risk of injury to workers, we cover off on physical, chemical, biological, mechanical and psychological.
  • Asbestos Awareness enables the participants to develop the knowledge of what asbestos is, possible asbestos containing materials as well as a basic understanding of the regulations around safe removal and disposal of asbestos.
  • Work Safely at Heights, participants will gain their Nationally Accredited qualification and save you on lost time sending them to get their Work at Heights qualifications later in their apprenticeships.  This enables them also to start work knowing what a harness is, how to correctly fit one and what it feels like to be suspended in the air, this in particular had a great impact on the participants.

MBT is offering this training free to its members and runs on demand, if you are interested in sending your new apprentices along please contact Wendy or Amy in our Hobart office.

Master Builders’ Association of Tasmania Inc is a registered Group Training Organisation (GTO)

The MBT Group Training model is primarily focused on connecting apprentices with suitable ‘host employers’ for longer term placements.

If an employer has reservations about, or is not in a position to directly hire an apprentice, then using the Master Builders Tasmania GTO is an easy way to engage an apprentice while not taking on the concerns of employing an apprentice directly.

The GTO will assist a host employer to engage an apprentice while offering flexibility, security and support to both the employer and the apprentice. A host employer can select one of MBT's candidates, or present your own to be inducted into the MBT Group Scheme.
