Master Builders Tasmania Welcomes Introduction of Single Statewide Planning Scheme
Statement by Mr Michael Kerschbaum, Executive Director
Master Builders Tasmania (MBT) believes that today’s significant announcement that the Minister has formally approved the Tasmanian Planning Scheme is a great step forward for the state.
Mr Kerschbaum, MBT’s Executive Director said, “This has been the culmination of a lot of hard work and the Government should be congratulated on today’s announcement. For too long planning schemes have contained nuances and differences that were just not necessary. That will all change with implementation of the single, statewide scheme and should lead to the unlocking of investment once in place.”
Mr Kerschbaum added, “There will be many advantages which will extend past the direct property, building and construction sectors. Planners, councils and the broader community will all benefit as common interpretations and approaches develop over time and the cost of maintaining and updating Schemes falls dramatically.”
Mr Kerschbaum concluded, “The hard work for councils will now commence as they assess their existing planning instruments against the new Scheme and decide what local provisions to include. This last step will be critical in preserving unique areas and sites within each municipality.”
