Insurance

Housing Indemnity Insurance is available for all approved Accredited Members, through CGU Insurance Limited, an IAG Company.

All application forms are available on the CGU Website www.cgu.com.au/warranty or contact your MBA Regional Office:

Complete application forms with supporting documentation: contract, plans and structural certificate, should be submitted to your regional office. Payment for the policy is required with the application and premium rates are available by contacting your regional office and quoting the full contract price.

Contract Services

Contracts are vital for builders and sub-contractors in the Industry, but they are complicated documents for the inexperienced or untrained.

The MBA is available to assist Members with contractual problems, tender documents, cost adjustment formulae, etc.

The Association makes frequent representations to State Government departments, Local Authorities and other planning bodies to alleviate Members' problems arising from policy decisions or interpretations.

The staff also monitor, analyse and communicate to Members the significance and possible ramifications of new legislation introduced through both State and Federal Parliament.

Services Include:

  • Advice on the correct contract documents to use
  • Assistance to complete contract documents
  • Interpretation of Clauses is contract documents
  • Review and advice on contract documents not produced by the MBA
  • Assistance and advice on contractual disputes
  • Calculation and/or checking of Cost Adjustment (rise and fall claims)
  • Quarterly material and labour indexes required to calculate rise and fall claims.
  • Costing rates
  • Advice on contractual problems
  • An extensive range of standard head contract and sub-contract documents
  • Mediation/Reconciliation of disputes
  • An extensive range of miscellaneous contract documents
  • Advice on partnering
  • Lodgement of intrastate and interstate tenders for Members

Industrial Relations

The Association works to represent Members in Industrial negotiations, and inform them of essential data:

  • Calculation of Federal and State rates
  • Advice on:
    • Federal and State Award conditions. Superannuation schemes
    • Safety matters such as the Workplace Health & Safety Act and Safety Regulations
    • Site amenities
    • Worker's Compensations
    • Long Service Leave
    • Union Membership
    • Redundancy
    • Anticipated increases in Labour costs.
    • Enterprise Agreements
    • Australian Workplace Agreements
  • Provision of:
    • Awards and other Industrial information (e.g. rates of pay, conditions, holidays etc).

    • Representation of individual Members in trade union disputes
    • Representation of individuals at tribunals and of the Industry before Industry tribunals

The Master Builders Association of Tasmania offers many and varied opportunities for members to enhance their marketing opportunities. We promote members through various activities, which include:
